2007 GENERAL MOTORS GM-LAN BUS

Another year and another type of Data-Bus has appeared. No longer is General Motors equiping all of their cars and trucks with the first generation Class 2 Data-Bus, but are starting to introduce an all new GM-LAN BUS. As the new body styles appear so will the new data bus. This latest data bus will require all new harnesses and interfaces to upgrade or replace those new factory car stereos. 07 GM Lan-bus
GM 07 dash kit       So where do you go from here to upgrade that 2007 and up factory GM system? A good car stereo amplifier and a pair of subs would be a great place to start. A new adaptor from PAC-AUDIO is perfect for doing just that. It's a quick plug-and-play piece that connects at the head unit, and also provides a true remote trigger on the entry level powered Bose system. Get your hands on the PAC AOEM-GM1416 and you're ready to go.

Swapping out those factory car stereos is also a simple task with one of the new GM-LAN Bus adaptors. The GMCOL11 or the GMCOL29 from Peripheral ($119.95) are perfect for non-Onstar systems. Just like the CMCO from the past years, these units are plug-and-play and will keep all the factory options intact. A more complicated piece will be required for Onstar equiped vehicles, the GMAHLANB also from Peripheral ($199.95) will do the trick. These units are quite pricey as other data-bus interfaces have been in the past. The technology needed to make changes to the car stereos in these new data bus systems does not come cheap.

Even though General Motors has thrown us another curve, replacing or upgrading those factory car stereos is still fairly easy if you use the correct parts. Also changes to the still double-din dash openings will require new dash kits such as the (Best BKGMK317) or (BKGMK352) for the 07's and up. The antenna adaptor (Best BAA20) has also changed and now have that funky Ford/Chrylser type tip. You've gotta' love these car manufacturers.

If these changes freak you out some, then head on down to your closest specialist that sells and installs car stereos and let them help you with a great car stereo upgrade. Or at least let them make sure you get the right parts to get the job done and not damage that shiney new car or truck. There's getting to be more and more technology involved in replacing or upgrading these latest car stereos, and the right parts and information are a must.

With the new parts and interfaces from companies like Pac-Audio and Peripheral, you can turn this potentially complicated event into a simple task. Good luck with your new car stereo upgrade.
